History

The Paul Horn company was founded in Germany in 1969 and grew rapidly throughout the final quarter of the 20th Century.  During the 1990s a series of overseas subsidiaries was established in key markets to oversee sales and distribution of Horn's range of high precision grooving tools.

Great Britain, Northern Ireland and Eire were served by Horn UK, founded in 1995 with offices in New Milton, Hampshire.  Rapid growth in sales and manufacturing activity soon identified the need for larger premises and the company moved to its present home in Ringwood in 1999.

From 1996 the UK company had manufactured special inserts for the local market, supported by installation of solid modelling CAD/CAM facilities.  Specials, and applications engineering support have been a key factor in Horn's success in the UK and Eire.  As a result Horn has a strong presence in the aerospace, defence, off-highway, hydraulics, general precision engineering and oil industry supply sectors.

In 2004 the company invested in a major manufacturing expansion which more than doubled the size of the premises.  Eight CNC insert grinding machines were installed and Horn UK became the group's major source of standard Mini-style cutting inserts.  Manufacturing operates under an ISO 9001 approved quality assurance scheme and its environmental systems are certified as being ISO 14001 compliant.

In 2006, two additional CNC machines were installed for local production of customised special inserts for the UK market, another two machines have been added since.  This provided enhanced local manufacturing capacity for specials.

Horn Cutting Tools Ltd was incorporated at the start of 2008.  It now has around 54 full-time staff engaged in sales, design, manufacturing, customer training and applications support.
